A 64-year-old holidaymaker, David Cannon, suffered a broken leg while riding the Canyon Ride at Center Parcs Whinfell Forest. He describes feeling a 'crack' and intense pain as he started the slide, being unable to move due to his injury. Cannon completed the slide with his leg 'flopping', fearing he would drown.

A holidaymaker who broke his leg while getting onto a Center Parcs water slide feared he was 'going to drown'. There was no turning back for David Cannon once he lowered himself onto the Canyon Ride at the Subtropical Swimming Paradise in Whinfell Forest, Cumbria.

READ MORE: Police raided his house looking for drugs - but got a shock when they looked in his bin bags Although there were information signs about the ride, David claims there was no clear guidance on how to lower yourself onto the slide. He says the handrail on the left-hand side was also in an awkward position to use while lowering himself, although Center Parcs say all the adequate safety features are in place.

David says he waited for two hours in the same spot before an ambulance took him to Cumberland Hospital, in Carlisle. He waited in A&E for five hours, still wearing his swimming shorts, before an X-ray revealed he had broken his femur.
