EXCLUSIVE: Home and Away star Georgie Parker talks how her temporary break from the show has landed her character in a coma and opens up about her health battle and rise to fame
The last time Home And Away actress Georgie Parker left Summer Bay to star in a play, her character Roo Stewart came back with a parasite from South America! This time, to allow Georgie to temporarily leave our screens to appear in a Sydney stage production, Roo was caught up in a van explosion.
The story took a darker turn than expected when Marilyn was delivered a package that contained a bomb - but it was John Palmer and Roo who were caught up in the blast. “I never planned my career,” explains Georgie. “When you say ‘yes’ to a job like this, you’re saying yes for a lot of reasons. I signed when my daughter was 10-years-old, she was at school and I wanted to come home every night. Usually when you’re a gigging actor, you’re travelling all the time and I didn’t want that lifestyle when my daughter was young.”
“I started acting when I was 18, and I've been doing TV regularly since I was 22,” says Georgie. “I started in theatre and miniseries, so I was regularly getting work and loved it. Once I landed A Country Practice at 23, that’s when I was in people’s homes every night. Suddenly people were calling out ‘Lucy’ to me, which was my character’s name.
