UK households that have owned their washing machine for six years could be hit with a hefty £538 charge, according to Citizens Advice.
A C-rated washing machine, costing £349 upfront and using 68 kWh per 100 washes, will cost 17p per wash, or £17 for 100 washes. This amounts to 68p per week, £35 annually, and £212 over six years, bringing the total cost to £561.An E-rated washing machine, the cheapest at £319 upfront but using 90 kWh per 100 washes, will cost 33p per wash, or £23 for 100 washes.
