Police say the man, 33, first listed the phoney gold online on social media, attempting to attract buyers and lure them to meet in person to make the sale.
On June 10, one man met the alleged offender at a service station along the Bruce Highway at the Glass House Mountains and bought what he was told were three gold bullions.A man has been charged with three counts of fraud after being caught allegedly trying to sell fake gold bullions for cash on the Sunshine Coast.He reported the matter to the police.As soon as the man presented the fake bullions, police swooped and arrested him.
The 33-year-old, from Hornsby in New South Wales, was charged with three counts of fraud, one count of attempted fraud and two counts of possession of tainted property.Officers suspect he made have made a number of other deals before he was caught."Don't fall for this scam and don't purchase gold off advertisements on social media," Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said.
"If you're looking to buy gold, always use due diligence and go through a reputable gold trader who has an established business."Continue reading
