Hornsby Shire Council Mayor and former federal minister Philip Ruddock says he lost the Liberal Party preselection vote on Monday over his stance on development in the area.
Philip Ruddock has failed to win Liberal Party preselection to continue as Hornsby Shire Council Mayor beyond next month's election.
He said his stance to limit subdivisions and property development in the Hornsby Shire Council area was not popular with some. "In recent months it became clear to me that I could choose to either allow developers free reign over the shire I have fought to protect, or to stand by my principles and face certain replacement as the Liberal Party candidate," he said.
"In these things I've always found that we can get cheap and nasty, and it can be done in ways that help those who happened to own land, to profit.""Nothing's ever the end," he said.
