'You can't believe this can happen on your own doorstep': Horror on the 'quiet' estate where police have launched murder investigation
Residents on a quiet estate in Dukinfield have spoken of their horror after learning a murder investigation has been launched just feet away from their homes. Detectives are investigating the death of a woman, who sustained life-threatening injuries at a house on Winchester Road, but tragically died in hospital a short time later.
One Winchester Road resident, who has lived in the area for more than two decades, told the Manchester Evening News of her concern upon spotting a number of officers at the property on Sunday morning. "You just can't believe something like this can happen right on your own doorstep. It is shocking. We don't really know the people that lived there, they kept themselves to themselves and haven't lived here for long."
"I had wondered what had gone on and was just totally shocked when I found out the news. Something like that, this close to home?" The family of the deceased 49-year-old woman are being supported by specialist officers as the investigation continues. Police acknowledged how the incident would send ripples through the local community, and vowed to increase patrols in the area to reassure those living nearby.
