It means people will be able to stay overnight and not have to sleep sitting up or on the floor

Fathers and partners of new mothers will finally have a place to stay overnight at King's Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield after the local NHS Trust installed 47 recliner chair-beds. Sherwood Forest Hospitals asked families how their birthing experience could be improved - and were told that a place for visitors to sleep would be very useful.

As well as the chairs, there will also be coaching available for fathers and partners in how to best build strong bonds with their babies from the earliest opportunity through skin-to-skin contact. There will also be training in how to help with breastfeeding. Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust worked in partnership with the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Maternity Voices Partnership on the project. Emma Lambert, a volunteer at MVP, joined the working group after her son was born at King’s Mill Hospital in 2018.

The decision on whether someone can and who can stay will be in the hands of ward staff along with the woman giving birth. Partners will be asked not to leave and come back to the ward overnight for the "safety, security and comfort of all the mothers, babies and staff".
