The BSP registered only $574.46 million of net foreign portfolio outflows in 2021, lower by 86.5 percent compared to the previous year’s net outflow of $4.24 billion.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas registered only $574.46 million of net foreign portfolio outflows in 2021, lower by 86.5 percent compared to the previous year’s net outflow of $4.24 billion.For December 2021 only, foreign portfolio investments’ net outflow was at $4.38 million, reversing November’s net inflow of $109.56 million. But, compared to same period in 2020, the $4.38 million fund withdrawals was an improvement from a net outflow of $523.86 million.
“The US remains to be the top destination of outflows, receiving 72.9 percent of total remittances,” said the BSP. In terms of portfolio investments, the BSP had earlier estimated a $1.5-billion net foreign portfolio investment inflows for 2021. For this year, it is projecting net hot money inflows to reach $5.7 billion amid expectations of improvements in the domestic and global investment climate.
The top five investor countries in December with 79.5 percent share of total were the United Kingdom, the US, Singapore, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
