Met Office is warning of possible power cuts across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire
A weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for spells of heavy rain across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire as Storm Herminia arrives. The yellow warning, which runs from 8am on Sunday through to 6am on Monday , follows previous warnings for wind on Friday due to Storm Éowyn and ice on Saturday .
The yellow warning for rain over the weekend and into Monday has been issued because a period of heavy rain is likely to affect central and southern England and much of Wales during Sunday morning followed by some heavy, thundery showers. A Met Office spokesman said: "Quite widely, 10-20 mm will fall, with locally nearer 30-50 mm over high ground, particularly over exposed south or southeast-facing upslopes. It's then possible that a further spell of heavy rain may develop and affect parts of England and Wales on Sunday evening, clearing early Monday and should this be the case a few places may see as much as 80 mm of rainfall in total.
"Given recent heavy rain, this extra rainfall could lead to some local surface water and river flooding." With the country still reeling from Eowyn, forecasters are turning their attention to Storm Herminia, named by the Spanish meterological service. The Met Office has issued several warnings for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
As well as a chance of flooding in some areas, there is a possibility of power cuts, difficult driving conditions, problems with public transport and where there is deep or fat flowing floodwater, there could be "danger to life", according to the Met Office.Monday, January 27:
