New images have shown how the site of the former Bellgrove Hotel could look once the building is redeveloped.was described as “like a Soviet gulag” before it was closed and earmarked for partial demolition.
Wheatley Group has submitted plans to redevelop the hotel to provide 70 flats for mid-market rent and create a new four-storey block of 56 apartments on adjacent vacant land. The new development would include landscaped areas, including a linear park heading towards Dennistoun. The hotel redevelopment is part of wider plans for the regeneration of the Gallowgate area and includes brownfield land to the east.As the building is only is one of only two Listed Buildings in the vicinity, Glasgow City Council"strongly maintained" that it should be retained in some form. The converted building would include 14 flats, with eight wheelchair-adaptable properties.
The plans are due to go before council planners who will decide whether the development can go ahead.
