The Royal Family has been preparing for the Queen’s death since the 1960s through a plan known as Operation London Bridge 🔴 Here’s how long the nation will remain in a state of mourning, and what happens now.
Plans to carry the Queen’s body by Royal Train to London are known as Operation Unicorn. Prime Minister Liz Truss and senior ministers are expected to meet the Queen’s coffin on arrival in London before she is taken to Buckingham Palace.
In an operation known as Spring Tide, his tour is expected to begin with a visit to the Scottish Parliament and a service at St Giles’s Cathedral in Edinburgh. Charles will then return to London for the Queen’s funeral. He will join hundreds of thousands of people from across the UK in paying his respects to the Queen at the lying in state.
The Archbishop of Canterbury will perform a short service following the coffin’s arrival. VIPs will be given tickets to avoid having to queue, with others queuing to view the coffin up to 23 hours a day.
