Under a proposed new law, SNAP benefits would look quite different from this year into next.The Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act of 2024, proposed by Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow, seeks to protect the current conservation and climate funding in the Inflation Reduction Act as well as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program .
'SNAP benefits would go out to more Americans if the law is passed because it ends the rule prohibiting SNAP payments from going to people convicted of felonies. Under the new rules, SNAP applications would be permissible for incarcerated people 30 days from release.Because of that change, Kevin Thompson, a finance expert and the founder/CEO of 9i Capital Group, expects many to push back against the proposal.
