With thanks to watfordmuseum, do you recognise where in the town this is?
is delighted to share pictures from the Watford Museum archive and this week we feature a view from Lower Derby Road towards Water Lane.
The museum's volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said:"This view of Lower Derby Road with J Balmer & Sons, glass merchants, on the corner, looks towards the beginning of the steep hill of Water Lane. "At the time of this photo in the 1950s, there were houses where today there is a skateboard park, and the buildings in Water Lane are long gone and now there is a block of flats."Beyond the Cadbury Dairy Milk advert sign on the opposite of Water Lane, is the rail line which has a station in Lower High Street."Originally Derby Road was connected to Lower Derby Road but now they are split by the road that leads from the ring road to the roundabout by the Five Arches viaduct.
