Manchester psychotherapist Sarie Taylor shares her experience and advice on how to enjoy a stress-free Christmas, addressing common issues such as present buying, grotto visits, and the general busy nature of the holiday season.
It's supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but for many people Christmas can end up feeling anything but. With present buying, grotto visits, and festive events to get to, it can all end up feeling a little too much. Many parents in particular say they often feel too exhausted and overwhelmed to even enjoy it. Manchester psychotherapist Sarie Taylor knows that feeling all too well. Having struggled with anxiety and depression for many years, she says she 'hated Christmas '.
Looking back now, she knows why. Sarie shares her own experience and offers advice on how people can enjoy a stress-free Christmas. When we start to get busy and chaotic, not just physically but also mentally, and we feel like there is so much that we need to do within a certain time frame, this starts the ball rolling on us becoming overstimulated and hyper vigilant. We can become so habitual with this that we barely even notice that we are feeling this way and we keep going, keep pushing for perfection, but is this at a cost to us? We don’t need to be physically busy for us to feel this, we just need to have a busy mind to become overstimulated
