The bank has confirmed that it is aware of the issue and issued advice to customers affected
HSBC and Nationwide customers have been left in the lurch as both the bank's website and mobile app stopped working, leaving thousands unable to access their accounts.
Nationwide told the BBC it was aware of "third-party payments issues impacting some providers, including Nationwide" which had "delayed a small number of payments". A third managed to find a silver lining though, pointing out: "The rage on Twitter because the HSBC app is down on payday. I'll pay my bills in a couple of hours when it's no doubt back up. People get so angry about the wrong things."
