A huge spawning ground for herring off Scotland’s northwest coast has been spotted from space in a major eco discovery.
Underwater researchers have since confirmed the latest findings off Wester Ross, with ocean drones discovering vast areas of eggs attached to maerl beds on the seafloor. Top news stories today A team from Edinburgh Napier University's West of Scotland Herring Hunt project then headed to Gairloch, Wester Ross, to verify the discovery, deploying an underwater drone - which then resurfaced covered in tiny herring eggs.She told BBC News: "It allowed us to pinpoint exactly where the spawning grounds are and this is something we've struggled with for many years.
