Our political correspondent patersonHT unpacks Humza Yousaf's historic win ✍
Humza Yousaf has a huge job on his hands and there are many reasons why he has to do things differently.
There are the thousands of people on an NHS hospital waiting list who have been in pain but are unable to get treatment. While he can be seen as the continuity first minister, being so close to Nicola Sturgeon his appointment and his cabinet represent a generational shift. Yousaf may owe his rise and election to his loyalty to Sturgeon over the years but it would be expected that he will have a different outlook than his predecessors.
Others are doing the same for other marginalised groups. Pam Duncan-Glancy, Labour Glasgow MSP, is equally vocal on the rights of disabled people and others. Yousaf himself, at 37, is the youngest to have held the first minister post but he still has more than a decade in government behind him.
