Hundreds gathered on Liverpool's Pier Head today in a show of solidarity against far-right activity. People appeared on the waterfront at 12pm while speakers included trade union leaders and religious figures.
The event was one of many demonstrations against the far-right organised across the country today by Stand Up To Racism. Protestors were urged by organisers to wait around on the Pier Head until 2.30pm as rumours of a far-right protest at 2pm had began to spread online. At around 2.30pm, a very small congregation of counter-protestors appeared as demonstrators marched to meet them. Police kept the two groups separate while the event remained peaceful. Around an hour later, the crowds had dispersed.city centre today following the violent scenes which have been happening across Merseyside over the last few weeks. The new order will be in place for 12 hours from 11am today and will stay active until 11pm.
