Campaigners claim there is a lack of transparency in how incidents are assessed

Many more – 712 – were initially placed in category 2, which have a “lesser, yet significant impact”, while 1,101 were classed as category 3 incidents with a “minor or minimal impact on the environment, people or property with only a limited or localised effect on water quality”.Incidents reported to the EA are initially categorised based on available information at the time of reporting.
