Parenting four-month-old surrogate twins was just one of the issues Josh and Sean Szeps faced.
Australian broadcaster Josh Szeps, 45, first met American author and podcaster Sean Szeps, 35, in a bar in New York. Parenting their twins hasn’t always been smooth sailing, but the bumps have been more than worth it.
He also had this very American mindset where you work hard and don’t slouch. He was working as a host in a restaurant when I booked us business-class tickets to Croatia, but he refused to take a week and a half off because he thought it’d look bad to his boss. I said, “I’m trying to sweep you off your feet and you’re nailing your feet to the floorboards.”We married in 2014 and had twins in 2017 through a surrogate. We moved to Australia two months later and I started working for the ABC.
!” I thought, “What if he becomes more successful than me? What if he becomes cooler than me, doing this amazing stuff when I’m stuck talking to people on the AM radio band?” We moved in after 11 months. I was 22 and he was 32. He was mature and very grounding, and so different to the little boys I’d dated before. I’d always been anxious, but he had a relaxed Aussie attitude. I was also focused on climbing the ladder, but Josh was like, “Yeah, but are you having fun?”
