Zoe tested three cheaper alternatives and the result surprised her
Before spreading her wings and trying something new, reporter Zoe said 'We usually keep a tub of spreadable butter in the fridge for daily use. It's tastier than margarine and generally more affordable and convenient for sandwiches than blocks of real butter.' However, when she noticed that Morrisons was offering blocks of butter in its Savers range as a competitor to Lurpak at a fraction of the cost, she couldn't let it pass her by.
This vegetarian-friendly option is made with Red Tractor certified milk. It spread well onto the toast but was rather bland, lacking the creamy, salty flavour you'd expect from Lurpak. Zoe wasn't impressed, she said: 'A bit of a letdown, I rated it two out of five stars.' Priced at £1.79 for 250g from Aldi, Cowbelle British Butter works out to 72p per 100g. It contains 54g of saturated fat and 1.5g of salt per 100g.
