Two businesses and a community group are looking to challenge Wirral Council on its decision to bring in parking charges
A business owner is planning to take Wirral Council to court following a decision to bring in parking charges in a number of areas across the borough. Dave Wilkie from New Brighton accused the local authority of only caring about itself “at the expense of the rest of the town.” Wirral Council has faced significant opposition to the proposals but they were approved by a majority of councillors on December 3.
“Those are the two legal points they have to get past. Every time it ends in failure so why do they keep doing it?” Mr Wilkie believes the situation with New Brighton traffic now is no different to what it was two years ago when he previously challenged the council. A traffic survey commissioned by WLG in 2022 suggested there was not a parking or congestion issue in New Brighton or one that justified the introduction of parking charges.
