'I got a knock on the door and it was her teacher'
Lucie Joan Fagan had just returned to school after two years away when her mother received a knock at the door. It was her daughter's teacher.
She had first been diagnosed with ependymoma, a growth of cells that forms a tumour, in March 2021, at the age of ten.Her mother, Jayne Fagan, said the family had to move to Manchester for months so Lucie could undergo proton beam therapy at the Christie Hospital. But months after finishing her treatment and ringing the bell, a scan revealed that Lucie, from Bootle, Merseyside, had a second tumour on her brain.
Then, just three days before her 14th birthday, received the devastating news her cancer had returned for the third time after collapsing in school. "It's really hard for her as a kid," said Ms Fagan. "She has just made a group of brilliant friends and had a part in the Christmas panto, which she has lost. She is devastated because her life has been put on hold.
