A man has asked for advice after his neighbour repeatedly asked him to babysit her child so she could relax - and even called him 'selfish' for refusing

Many of us have found ourselves in need of a bit of sugar or someone to feed the fish while away on holiday, and it's not unusual to turn to our neighbours for assistance. Neighbourhoods often form tight-knit communities, and even if you're not close friends with those living next door, maintaining a friendly rapport can be beneficial.

The man doesn't know his neighbour well and has expressed discomfort at the idea of looking after her child, leading him to decline her requests repeatedly. Yet, the woman, who became his neighbour in March, continues to ask and has even gone as far as to call him "selfish" for his refusals. He penned: "If we had the time then yes we most probably would look after her child for a few hours but we are both extremely busy people. We usually work the same days so we get the same days off as each other and we want to relax when we get home, but the neighbour is knocking on the door asking for us to look after her child. Even on our days off, she keeps asking and asking and it's getting so annoying now.

The online community advised the man to stand his ground and decline to babysit the neighbour's child unless he truly wishes to, suggesting that while kindness is commendable, it should not open doors to exploitation.
