I thought it would be a long, drawn out process, but it took me minutes and now I am £505 better off
When I heard Martin Lewis urging all former students with student loans to check if they were due a refund I didn't hold out much hope. Even after a MSE investigation at the back end of last year found that over a million former students had wrongly overpaid their loans I just assumed I wouldn't be one of them.
Martin Lewis states that are a number of reasons why people overpaid their student loans. One is that former students have been repaying loans despite not earning enough in the tax year. Another is that you may be on the wrong student loan payment plan, have started paying it off too early or have in fact already paid it off and wrongly still be paying it.
After logging in via the GOV Student Finance website, I went to 'request a refund', pressed continue, checked as it said that my details were correct and then simply clicked 'send refund request' and voilà!
