Dougie Donnelly was the face of Scottish football on TV and the Ibrox and Hampden hierarchies came calling

Legendary Scottish TV presenter Dougie Donnelly has revealed he was headhunted for top jobs as Rangers AND the Scottish FA. But he wasn't interested in either.

Donnelly was the face of Scottish football on BBC in the 9-s and early 2000s, fronting Sportscene and the channel's live coverage of the game and his face was a well known fixture in living rooms across the country. And he's now admitted that he was approached over becoming head of media at the Ibrox club during Dick Advocaat's reign.

He told the Daily Mail: "I never thought about either job too hard," he said. "The Rangers approach came in a telephone call in about 2000. "It was a sort of, 'would you be interested?' question. I was told by someone in the know that Dick Advocaat, the manager then, would have made it a difficult job. But I had no compelling interest.

"I have spent most of my career protesting that I am a Clyde fan with people asking if I am a Rangers Clyde fan or a Celtic Clyde fan. I wasn’t really tempted." Donnelly also sounded out over the top gig at the SFA. but he felt he was ill-suited to it and essentially could do without the hassle. He explained: "I would have had to have given up everything else and frankly I did not have the skill set for either job.
