Edinburgh's Christmas Market is now open for another year, and so Scotland Now's Alexander Smail headed down to check it out — here is his verdict on the famous market.
Each year, Edinburgh 's Christmas extravaganza draws millions of visitors from across Scotland and beyond. The winter festival includes all kinds of festive activities for the whole family, from a Christmas Tree Maze at St Andrews Square to an Ice Rink on George Street.
We started off with a wee wander around the various stalls, just taking in the atmosphere. Sadly, I can't say my first impressions were especially positive. Christmas in Scotland There were definitely some hidden gems in there, though. My first buy of the evening was at a stall selling gorgeous decorative bowls and plates made in Palestine, where I picked up a lovely bowl with fish pattern on it for a very reasonable £8.
I knew the food was going to be pricey after visiting the market last Christmas. That didn't mean my eyes didn't widen when the friendly man behind the till told me my waffle with a bit of melted chocolate on it came to £9 — more expensive than the bowl I just bought!View gallery It wasn't bad at all, with the rich chocolate providing a perfect balance to the cakey waffle. However, it wasn't especially big and I can't say it was worth the money.
