Philippe Clement is looking to bring in players before the end of the summer window
The 23-year-old was the standout for Egypt at the Olympics in Paris – including scoring both goals against Spain in the 2-1 win in the group stage. He led his nation to the semi-final and within touching distance of a medal. That has attracted interest from across Europe, according to Kora Plus, who state that the Scottish Premiership side have made their move to sign the wide man.
However, Rangers have seen their first bid turfed out by the Cairo side as Philippe Clement looks to add to his squad before Friday's transfer deadline. It is claimed that despite the initial rejection, the Light Blues are still "seeking to sign" Adel – and he is unlikely to be the only one on the Ibrox agenda in the coming days with the door left open to revive interest in Almeria defender Kaiky.
Reports suggested the Segunda Division club had booted out an offer from the Light Blues for the centre-back. A loan with a fee of €750,000 that includes a €7m option to buy and a 30 per cent sell on fee was said to be on the table. But Almeria coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia admits he can't rule out a departure – with player's positions on exits changing every day as the end of the summer window approaches. He told Diario de Almeria: “It’s what we always know – everyone runs when the final date approaches.
"These are the worst moments for a coach in a club. It is no longer that you can lose a player or not, that is normal, but that the footballer’s head changes every day."
