Three iconic Glasgow high-rise flats will be demolished on Sunday, March 23rd as part of a major regeneration project. Residents living in the surrounding area will be evacuated during the demolition, but are expected to be able to return home later in the day. The demolition is the first step in a £100 million project to transform the Wyndford area, with nearly 400 new homes planned.

A demolition date has been set for three iconic Glasgow high-rise flats as residents living nearby are set to be evacuated. A notice from demolition company SafeDem has been sent to residents of the 151, 171, and 191 Wyndford Road buildings, informing them that the buildings will be brought down on Sunday, March 23. It is understood that an exclusion zone will be placed around the area, and residents will be evacuated while the work is ongoing.

However, they are expected to be able to return home later in the day, reports Glasgow Live. Community liaison officers will visit residents within the exclusion zone, and the company says it is vital they speak to residents. Glasgow City Council previously approved plans for the buildings to be flattened and replaced with 300 new homes. The £73 million investment will see 250 new social housing homes, including over 100 three and four-bedroom family homes, with the remaining being below market rent properties. A spokesperson for Wheatley Homes said: “Plans for the £100m transformation of Wyndford are taking a major step forward with the date announced for the demolition of three blocks. The demolition will be carried out by Safedem, an industry-leading, multi-award-winning company which has carried out similar blowdowns across the world. “To allow the demolition to take place safely and with minimum disruption, an exclusion zone will be in place around the three blocks and surrounding homes on the day. Safedem is already getting in touch directly with residents about arrangements. “The demolition paves the way for the regeneration work which will see nearly 400 new, energy-efficient larger family homes built – 85% of which will be for social rent – transforming the area for generations to come. “We’d like to thank everyone for their support and understanding during this important part of the community regeneration project.”
