Animal shelters are filled to critical levels, so Berkeley Humane is hosting the single largest adoption event in all of California this year with more than 20 animal rescue and shelter organizations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 7 to place more than 200 pets into loving homes.“This is a great time to find a new family member, and some of these animals have traveled a long way to meet you,” said Jeffrey Zerwekh, Berkeley Humane’s executive director.
“In addition to new adoptions, we want to ensure that families with pets who may be experiencing difficult times receive support too,” said Haley Heslip, Berkeley Humane’s volunteer committee chair who is planning the event. “For the first time, we will be offering a fee-waived microchip and vaccine clinic.”The North Shattuck Association invites the public to historic Vine Street between Shattuck Avenue and Walnut Street in North Berkeley from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The music stage kicks off with beats for young attendees with DJ Juan hosting a kids’ dance party. Kids’ can also get interactive with lawn games, fun for the whole family. As the day heats up, so will the music with performances by Los Allegres Callejeros, SASS Dance and Paula Marengo. “Online marketplaces are a valuable tool to buy and sell legitimate goods and services, but increasingly they’re also used by organized retail theft rings to unload stolen goods,” said Skinner, D-Berkeley. “With the overwhelming passage of SB 1144, the California Legislature has sent a clear message: Online marketplaces can no longer be used as giant fencing operations by organized retail theft rings. Those days are over.
In a statement defining her mission for the term, Taylor has said she is “working to bring poetry education to the urban public schools attended and help a diverse, underfunded school district celebrate its pluralism — and its community — through engagement in the arts.”
