Work on a $210 million Brisbane road project, which has support from both sides of politics, has been stalled by a broader Commonwealth infrastructure audit.

A $210 million congestion-busting road project on Brisbane’s northside – where half the funds come from the Queensland Labor government – has been delayed by the federal Labor government.

The work to widen Beams Road beside Carseldine train station and removing a level crossing previously had the support of all levels of government.The Queensland government committed $119.3 million, Brisbane City Council another $40 million and the Commonwealth $50 million under a deal struck by the former Coalition government of Scott Morrison.

The council – which is leading the project because Beams Road is a council road – has already spent $9 million on early works removing gas and electricity lines. An overpass will eventually remove the level crossing from the road, and improve safety along the rail line.
