Work on a $210 million Brisbane road project, which has support from both sides of politics, has been stalled by a broader Commonwealth infrastructure audit.
A $210 million congestion-busting road project on Brisbane’s northside – where half the funds come from the Queensland Labor government – has been delayed by the federal Labor government.
The work to widen Beams Road beside Carseldine train station and removing a level crossing previously had the support of all levels of government.The Queensland government committed $119.3 million, Brisbane City Council another $40 million and the Commonwealth $50 million under a deal struck by the former Coalition government of Scott Morrison.
The council – which is leading the project because Beams Road is a council road – has already spent $9 million on early works removing gas and electricity lines. An overpass will eventually remove the level crossing from the road, and improve safety along the rail line. Council was meant to call tenders for the level crossing component until the project was caught up in a national
