The wide man was drafted in to the squad for the friendly clash with France amid mounting injuries.
Stunned Max Johnston admitted he burst out laughing when he was told about his shock Scotland call-up.
“I burst out laughing when she told me because I just couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. I went back up and the first thing I did was text my mum, Nicola, my dad, Allan, and my sister, Amy, first of all. They were over the moon. Johnston recalled: “The next morning a driver came and took me up to Lesser Hampden and I went and trained with the team. I was excited to get in and about it and training. The manager, coaching staff and all the players were great.
Johnston said: “I am really grateful to the manager for giving me the chance to go to France. You only look at how well the team has done recently in qualifying for the European Championships. Johnston acknowledged: “It just motivates me even more to try and get back into the Scotland squad. If that opportunity was to come in the future then it would be amazing. Every player dreams of playing for Scotland. Hopefully, that will come at some point in the future.
