Time to spider-proof your home 🕷
Every autumn, the eight-legged arachnids sneak into our homes and sheds for breeding time, and this year looks set to be a bumper one.
That’s because of high summer temperatures combined with heavy rainfall, meaning there are lots of insects around for spideys to munch on. Entomologists at the University of Gloucestershire have been monitoring social media for mentions of spiders, and say this year there are more posts than at the same time in 2018.
‘It certainly looks as if people are getting quite excited by it quite early this year,’ Professor Adam Hart told theThe same team carried out a study in 2018 which found that the most active time for spiders during mating season was 7.35pm.If you’re settling down to watch Bake Off, that’s just the time spiders are seeking out a sexy male or female to do the deed.There was also a spike in reports between 6am and 8am – just when you’re in the bathroom getting ready for work.
They’re not fans of tea tree oil, rose, cinnamon, citronella or lavender either, so get that oil burner out.
