An inquest will examine the death of a mum who died in a Nottingham hospital following a "spontaneously ruptured" pregnancy. Aderinsola Okeyinka, 36, died on February 14 at the Queen's Medical Centre in Lenton, Nottingham.
Neena Sharma, assistant coroner for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, opened the inquest into the expectant mother's death on Wednesday, July 31, at Nottingham Council House on Old Market Square. A post-mortem investigation has not been carried out yet, Ms Sharma explained, but a provisional cause of death found Mrs Okeyinka died of a "spontaneously ruptured ectopic pregnancy".
The coroner added that sickle cell disease, an inherited health condition that affects the red blood cells, was thought to have contributed to her death. The coroner's officer had confirmed the identity of Mrs Okeyinka through a consultant doctor, who had treated her before her death, the inquest heard.The inquest was adjourned for the completion of further enquiries and will be resumed on a date yet to be fixed.
