David Chivers, 72, died after being struck by a car in a Worksop car park
An inquest has been opened into the death of an elderly man who died at the scene of a collision in a car park. David Charles Seymour Chivers died aged 72 after he was struck by a car at the entrance to the Priorswell Road car park in Worksop .
The tragic incident occurred at 11.50am on Thursday, September 12, and Mr Chivers was pronounced dead at the scene. Nathanael Hartley, assistant coroner for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, opened an inquest into Mr Chivers' death on Tuesday, November 19, at Nottingham Council House. Mr Hartley told the short hearing that Mr Chivers was identified by his partner to the attending police officers. Following a post-mortem examination into the man's death, the provisional cause of death was recorded as a head injury.
Mr Hartley said: "I certify that in accordance to my statutory duty, I have now opened an inquest touching on David's death and this hearing now stands adjourned for completion of further inquiries and will be resumed on a date yet to be fixed. I wish to extend my sincere condolences to David's family and friends at this difficult time."
Nottinghamshire Police said the driver of the car remained at the scene following the incident and was assisting police with their inquiries. Detective Constable Emma Temple, of Nottinghamshire Police’s serious collision investigation unit, said: "This was a tragic and distressing incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family, friends, and the wider community at this time."
