Experienced Ipswich Town winger Wes Burns has been ruled out of Wales' Euro 2024 play-off semi-final against Finland because of a hamstring injury
One of Leeds United's title rivals are sweating over the fitness of a key player ahead of the Championship run-in. Ipswich Town winger Wes Burns has withdrawn from the Wales squad to face Finland in their Euro 2024 play-off semi-final.
Wales go head-to-head with Finland tomorrow night, with winners to host Poland or Estonia on March 26 to decide a place at Euro 2024 in Germany this summer. When quizzed on Burns' fitness after Saturday's emphatic victory over the Owls, Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna said: "It was a hamstring and it doesn't look great. It certainly doesn't look like a very minor one. That's the big disappointment, for his season here for his internationals.
It would be a big blow to the Tractor Boys' hopes of securing a top-two finish if Burns is forced to miss a big chunk of the remainder of the campaign. The 29-year-old has racked up 32 Championship appearances this term, scoring five goals and providing three assists. However, the Foxes do have a game in hand over United and Ipswich as the battle for promotion intensifies.
