Penrith enforcer Spencer Leniu suffered a ruptured testicle at training on Wednesday evening, but tried to convince club staff he could still train the following day.
Dearden missed just one game for the Cowboys after copping a wayward knee against the Warriors in round 23 before returning a week before the finals.
A tighter turnaround between games for Penrith though means Leniu would be looking at an eight-day recovery before their next game against the Broncos, whereas Dearden had effectively two weeks before he returned wearing a protective cup.Leniu’s shift to the Roosters on a lucrative deal is likely to see him lining up alongside veteran Kiwi and childhood hero Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.
“He’s had that impact on the game for such a long time now. I’m not looking too far ahead, but if I get that chance to play with him, I’d love to be a sponge and pick his brain.” Panthers back-rower Liam Martin is expected to make a timely return from an ongoing hamstring issue against the Roosters.

Government ‘has tried to strike a balance’ with their 2023 budgetAustralian Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Andrew McKellar says the Government “has tried to strike a balance” with their 2023 budget by putting emphasis on cost-of-living pressures and energy cost relief. “Addressing the cost of living pressures, particularly for the lower paid and also for the smaller end of the business sector and equally providing support to the most vulnerable in the community,” Mr McKellar said. “From a purely business point of view, there’s probably not a lot, mainly focused around small business … the thing that obviously does jump out is the energy cost relief. “We need to go further in terms of making sure the energy market, we are preparing for the future that we’re addressing the issues around generation and distribution in energy including renewable capacity as part of the solution. “We can’t just rely on price caps and rebates if we’re going to get long-term solutions.”

Greens accuses Labor of ‘killing the debate’ on its ‘deeply flawed’ housing billLabor was “killing the debate” on the Housing Australia Future Fund bill, which is deeply flawed and will see the housing crisis get worse, according to Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather. Mr Chandler-Mather's remarks come after Labor’s centrepiece housing policy was blocked by the Greens and Coalition. “First things to say is there was no block – Labor tried to gag debate on the housing bill after 45 minutes of discussion and forced it on for a vote before negotiations had finished,” he told Sky News Australia. “Our point is that in the middle of the worst housing crisis in generations, we should also be guaranteeing public money to be spent on public and affordable housing. “It is distressing that I saw some people online from the Labor Party talking about blocking, and that’s an irresponsible way to frame what they actually were doing.”
