Picture: ABC Opposition Leader Peter Dutton said the comments showed the Prime Minister was “talking out of both sides of his mouth”. The Opposition Leader said the Prime Minister needed to come clean with the public, pointing out the government had already spent millions on establishing a Makarrata commission.
Mr Albanese’s comments, which came after he attended the Garma Festival in East Arnham Land, caused “confusion” among Indigenous leaders, with Uluru Dialogue co-chair Pat Anderson disputing the claim Makarrata simply meant “coming together”.“The Makarrata called for in the Uluru Statement is a bricks-and-mortar body and it was a clear election promise.”
