Jaguar I-Pace owners are unhappy with JLR's decision to remove third-party access to smart charging tech, resulting in increased charging bills and rendering certain apps useless. Owners on smart tariffs like Intelligent Octopus Go are no longer compatible with the I-Pace. However, those using JLR's recommended Octopus Go tariff are unaffected. JLR's InControl Remote can still be used to pre-set charging times.
Jaguar I-Pace owners have hit back at JLR for abruptly pulling third-party access to its models, ending the car’s ability to work with smart charging tech – something that saved owners thousands in electricity costs . This means owners will now, in essence, see charging bills soar as they will no longer be able to utilise their smart tariff to remotely control the car’s charging, filling up to a pre-set amount at the most economical times.
Those on smart tariffs such as Intelligent Octopus Go – which can achieve rates equivalent to 2.4p per mile – are no longer compatible with the I-Pace. This also means apps from popular devices, such as the PodPoint Solo and Ohme Home Pro, which can also regulate charging times themselves, are also redundant. However, the brand says that those who use its recommended Octopus Go tariff are unaffected, as it requires no data access. This differs to Intelligent Octopus Go as it has set times for cheaper kW pricing and owners are required to set their own charging schedules.
