Former Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles safety Terrell Edmunds is being cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
on Tuesday. Edmunds signed with the team over the offseason as a free agent, but could not crack the final roster.
The Steelers picked Edmunds in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, a surprising pick at the time. He spent five seasons with the team, leaving in 2022 to head to the Philadelphia Eagles after starting with the Steelers for most of that time. Midseason, the Eagles traded him to the Tennessee TitansComing out of Virginia Tech, Edmunds tested like a freak at the NFL Combine, which earned him a lot of hype then.
Over his career, Edmunds has six interceptions, which has been his undoing. While he is a physical and athletic player, Edmunds has never been a playmaker, which is part of why the Steelers were unwilling to give him a multi-year extension at any point in his tenure with the team. As for the Steelers, they have instead pivoted to Damontae Kazee and DeShon Elliott as their replacements for Edmunds in recent seasons. The team signed Elliott after the Steelers released veteran safety Keanu Neal this offseason.
