Expert gardener Stina Hasan advises pruning roses in January for optimal health and larger blooms in the summer.
As the new year unfolds, gardeners are eager to return to their beloved outdoor spaces, and for those with roses, there's a simple yet crucial task to kick off with to ensure a dazzling display in 2025. For those ready to prune their roses this January, be sure to have clean pruning shears, thick gloves, and either disinfectant spray or alcohol on hand for cleaning the shears, reports the Express. First and foremost, inspect your rose bush, singling out any branches that are dead, discoloured, or damaged and trim them away. It's crucial to eliminate not just unsightly branches but also any weak, thin growth, as this strategy encourages the roses to develop robustly. After all, if inferior stems stick around, roses would invest their energy in sustaining those weaker sections rather than channelling efforts into bloomin
