Water facilities were recently constructed by the Japanese government in Lanao del Sur, Cotabato, and Maguindanao to benefit various villages in the provinces.

Water reservoirs with treatment facilities with multiple tap stands were constructed and renovated in Barangays Banago, Poblacion, Narra, Batuan, Magulalung Occidental in Balabagan, Lanao del Sur; Barangay Nanga-an in Kabacan, Cotabato; and Barangay Reina Regente in Datu Piang, Maguindanao. According to the Koshikawa, the projects also generated hundreds of employment opportunities for the locals.

The initiative was funded by the People of Japan and was implemented under the ILO-Japan Water and Sanitation Project that was signed on March 6, 2019.
