The last remaining Conservative MP in Nottinghamshire is running to be the next leader of his party

Newark MP Robert Jenrick has received £115,000 in donations in a month as his bid to be the next Conservative Party leader continues. The only Conservative in Nottinghamshire emerged as the MP who received the most donations in the run-up to the July 4 general election.

That data was released in the first register of members' interests of the new Parliament, which details all the income and extra support an MP receives whilst in office. That first register showed Mr Jenrick as having received just over £140,000 in donations in the run-up to the election. The latest register now shows that Mr Jenrick has received another £115,000 in donations as the end of the Conservative Party leadership contest nears. The eight separate donations were given between July 23 and August 22, with £25,000 being the largest single amount donated.

It comes as Mr Jenrick's bid to be the next Tory leader continues. Initially vying against five other Tory MPs to succeed Rishi Sunak, Mr Jenrick is now standing against James Cleverly, Kemi Badenoch and Tom Tugendhat. The four MPs will be making their case to be the next opposition leader at the Conservative Party conference in late September. Other Conservative MPs will then have a final vote to decide which two contenders should be voted on by all Conservative Party members.
