A small restaurant known for its innovative tasting menus and use of locally sourced ingredients has been shortlisted for Restaurant of the Year at the Good Food Guide Awards.
A restaurant that takes humble ingredients and turns them into something special has been shortlisted for a prestigious Good Food Guide Award. Jericho is up for Restaurant of the Year alongside some of the best in the business. The restaurant's speciality is a 20-course tasting menu on a family farm, where dishes are delivered to every diner at the same time. The food is seasonal and fresh, with much of the produce picked from the garden just outside the door.
Example plates include farl, beetroot and green strawberry, mutton croquette, and apple, grown in the nearby orchard, glazed in homemade marmite. The £105-a-head restaurant can be found in Plungar in the Vale of Belvoir. Deep in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside, it's just 30 minutes from Nottingham. It does not cater for pescatarians, vegetarians, vegans and dislikes but non-fussy omnivores have been blown away by the imagination and quality. One diner raved: 'Fantastic experience. 5 star all around, from the setting, ambience, music, service and food.' Another said: 'An excellent meal. One of the very best I have ever had (and I have been fortunate enough to have eaten at many of the finest restaurants in the world). I would say in summary that it was brilliant, an amazing culinary experience.' Restaurant Jericho finished 2024 on a high with The Times food critic, Charlotte Ivers, naming it one of her favourite restaurants of the year. 'A slam-dunk winner' is how she described it with 'perfectly cooked British meat, innovative veg and mad desserts that shouldn't work but do'. Summing it up she said it was a meal you would remember forever. As well as best restaurant, the Good Food Guide Awards will be honouring best drinks list, new restaurant of the year, chef to watch and best value menu. Restaurant Jericho, run by Rich and Grace Stevens, is up against stiff competition including The Ritz in London, two Michelin-starred Indian restaurant Opheem in Birmingham and St John in Londo
