Worrying increase in young people claiming Jobseekers Allowance across the county 📈
The number of young adult jobseeker claimants in Lincoln has soared by 30% in a year, and new Jobcentre figures suggest this could be a worrying trend across the county.
The lowest recorded figure in the county was in North Kesteven, where claimant figures dropped by 100 to 1,280 for 2023. Four of the six local authorities in these findings , recorded decreases in the number of claimants from last year to now – with Lincoln and Boston reporting spikes.East Lindsey had the sharpest drop in claimant figures, with 2022’s number of 2,395 dropping by 13% to 2,095. It fell by 21% for over 50s and rose by 8% for 18-24-year-olds.The employment rate for 16-64-year-olds in the area sits at 76.2% – up 1% on the quarter and down 0.6% on the year.
