Jody Morris believes Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has outperformed Cole Palmer this season, making him the Blues' best player.
Jody Morris believes Moises Caicedo has been Chelsea ’s best player this season ahead of Cole Palmer . The Ecuador international, signed from Brighton for a British record transfer worth £115 million last year, struggled in his first season at Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino. However, Caicedo has shown significant improvement following the arrival of Enzo Maresca and the 23-year-old has established himself as a key figure in the Italian’s system.
Former Chelsea assistant Morris believes Caicedo has been one of the top two central midfielders in the Premier League this season alongside Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch. ‘If we’re talking team of the season, they’ve played better than anybody,’ Morris said on Rio Ferdinand Presents. ‘Caicedo has played better than Cole Palmer this year. If you’re talking team of the season, who has played better than Caicedo? ‘I’m just looking at pure performance, I’ve not seen Caicedo have a bad game.’ Morris also believes that Chelsea need to recruit an established central defender in order to boost their title hopes under Maresca. ‘I think we need an experienced, world-class centre-half,’ Morris said. ‘I don’t think we need a striker, I don’t think that’s here we’re struggling most at the minute. ‘We just need to shore up defensively.
