Joel Matip left Liverpool earlier this summer after an eight year spell with the Reds
Joel Matip could make a sensational return to the Premier League just months after leaving Liverpool. The 33-year-old ended his eight-year association with the Reds earlier this summer when his contract expired. The defender, who arrived at Anfield on a free transfer in 2016, is yet to find a new club. But that could be about to change if a report by Caught Offside is to be believed.
Earlier this month, Sky Sports reported West Ham had explored the free agent market for a new centre-back and Matip had been identified. John Egan, who left Sheffield United in the summer, is another player the Hammers are thought to be looking at signing alongside Matip. Should Matip complete the move to the London Stadium in the next few days, he could face Liverpool in the third round of the Carabao Cup at Anfield, with the first fixture set to take place on September 25.
