Summary John Cena is bringing his action and comedic skills to exciting new heights with Jackpot!. Helmed by A Simple Favor's Paul Feig, the action-comedy is set in a near-future California, in which poverty and unemployment rates are at an all-time high and the state lottery is meant to offer people a chance at an exciting new life.
Alongside Awkwafina and Cena, the ensemble Jackpot! cast reunites the former with her Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings co-star Simu Liu, Seann William Scott, Ayden Mayeri, Dolly de Leon, Donald Elise Watkins, and Machine Gun Kelly. Combining high-octane action with a fast-paced story, hilarious buddy comedy between its leads, and stylish direction, the movie is a thrilling treat for genre fans.
John Cena: It was a fast process. The shoot was fast, but I wouldn't have it any other way, because we fell into a rhythm and routine rather quickly. Awkwafina's style of comedy is fantastic, and I think the script played to those strengths. And, likewise, it allowed me to create a more patient buffer to kind of use my strengths. So, right away, we were able to set an environment where we were comfortable with each other being ourselves. And I think that's important.
This one, a lot of their action was practically based and right in my wheelhouse, so I was able to participate in this one a whole lot, which was great. And, really, hats off to our stunt team for trying to tell that action-comedy story like Jackie Chan. Jackie is the greatest physical storyteller of our generation, and it was good to be able to try to walk in his shoes for a little bit.
