The First Minister was due to visit Lerwick, on Shetland, for a campaign stop in the drive to elect Robert Leslie as the MP for Orkney and Shetland.
John Swinney was forced into a campaign trail u-turn today after a flight he was on was unable to land in Shetland . The First Minister was heading from Edinburgh to the north isle on a Loganair flight when he was forced to head back to the capital.
Loganair confirmed to the Daily Record the diversion was as a result of low cloud and fog. The airline had earlier posted on X, formerly Twitter: "Due to weather in Stornoway and Sumburgh there has been disruption to flights." He was also set to announce a plan to bankroll fresh ventures and local issues in island communities, thanks to a £5million funding package.
