Sølve SundsbøSet up with the money left by Alexander McQueen, the Sarabande Foundation nurtures young creatives at the forefront of their respective fields by providing much needed scholarships and studio space. LOVE meets the artists pushing the boundaries in its East London headquarters.‘I suppose I’m quite scientific in how I design,’ Katie Roberts-Wood tells me in her Sarabande studio, a small room rammed with dresses spilling out from every possible space.
Working as Roberts Wood, the brand she set up in 2015, Katie is finishing production on her autumn collection, presented at the ICA in February. Her models were selected from fellow Sarabande creatives because she wanted to represent the power of creativity for women. Her signature looks are fused from engineered pattern pieces using experimental methods rather than traditional stitching.
For his young adult life, Pontzer says, 'I was a safe-sex monster.' Then the inevitable bad relationship happened, with the awful guy that you meet in the final year of college, when you're broke and the scary mass of life is spreading right out before you. 'And I don't want to throw him under the bus, bu he obviously wasn't the same kind of same-sex practitioner I was. He also wasn't interested in protecting me from anything, whether that was emotional or physical.
